Catalyst Policies and Important Information

This section summarises the key policies that apply when using Catalyst Academics.

These policies are designed to keep the platform fair, sustainable and protected for the students, families, schools and team members using it properly.

The short version is pretty simple:

  • Use the account you paid for.
  • Do not share logins.
  • Do not steal, copy or redistribute the resources.
  • Cancel before renewal if you do not wish to continue.
  • Use the free trial properly before committing.

The longer version is below.

1. Subscription Terms

Catalyst Academics operates through a subscription-based model.

When a student subscribes to a course, they receive access to the content included in that course for the duration of their active subscription.

This may include, depending on the course and membership level:

  • theory videos;
  • application videos;
  • worksheets;
  • written solutions;
  • topic cheat sheets;
  • examination preparation resources;
  • personalised support, where included in the membership level.

A subscription provides access to the selected course only.

For example, a Year 12 Mathematical Methods subscription provides access to Year 12 Mathematical Methods. It does not automatically provide access to Specialist Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or any other course.

Access continues while the subscription is active and paid.

If the subscription ends, expires or is cancelled before renewal, access to the course will end at the conclusion of the current paid subscription period.

Students are welcome to resubscribe at any time if they wish to regain access.

2. Auto-Renewal

Catalyst subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.

Depending on the subscription selected, billing may occur:

  • weekly;
  • monthly;
  • annually.

It is the responsibility of the subscriber, parent or account holder to manage their subscription and cancel before the renewal date if they do not wish to continue.

3. Cancellation Policy

Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.

Cancelling a subscription stops the next renewal. It does not immediately remove access.

If a subscription is cancelled, the student will continue to have access to the subscribed course until the end of the current paid billing period.

For example:

  • if a weekly subscription is cancelled halfway through the week, access continues until the end of that paid week;
  • if a monthly subscription is cancelled halfway through the month, access continues until the end of that paid month;
  • if an annual subscription is cancelled during the year, access continues until the end of that paid annual period.

After the current paid period ends, the subscription will not renew and course access will be removed.

4. Refund Policy

Catalyst offers a 7-day free trial so students and families can explore a course before continuing with a paid subscription.

For that reason, Catalyst does not generally provide refunds for change of mind once a paid subscription period has commenced.

This includes situations where a student:

  • changes their mind;
  • no longer wants to use the course;
  • forgets to cancel before renewal;
  • does not use the course during the paid period;
  • decides they prefer a different support option.

Once payment has been made, access is provided for the relevant billing period.

Students and families are encouraged to cancel before the next renewal date if they do not wish to continue.

Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or replace any rights a customer may have under Australian Consumer Law or other applicable consumer protection laws.

5. Account Sharing Policy

Catalyst accounts are for individual student use only.

Each subscription or licence is for one student and one course.

Students, parents, families and schools must not share login details with other students, friends, classmates, siblings, tutors or any other person who does not have their own active subscription or licence.

In simple terms:

One student. One course subscription. One account.

Not:

One account. Five mates. Everyone shares the login and hopes we do not notice. We will.

That is not allowed.

Account sharing includes, but is not limited to:

  • giving another person your login details;
  • allowing another student to use your account;
  • sharing access with siblings or friends;
  • using one paid subscription for multiple students;
  • creating a group login;
  • rotating one account between multiple users;
  • allowing unlicensed students to access school licence accounts;
  • using another student’s account to view Catalyst content.

Catalyst may use platform activity data, login patterns, device access information and other account-security measures to detect unusual or unauthorised account use.

If Catalyst reasonably suspects that an account is being shared or misused, Catalyst may take action.

This may include:

  • warning the account holder;
  • temporarily restricting account access;
  • permanently suspending the account;
  • cancelling access without refund;
  • requiring payment for additional licences;
  • terminating school or institutional access;
  • taking further action where appropriate.

Account sharing is taken seriously because Catalyst resources require significant time, money and work to create.

Unauthorised sharing is unfair to the students, families and schools doing the right thing, and it directly undermines the platform.

Please do not share accounts.

It is not worth it.

6. Content Usage Policy

Catalyst resources are provided for the personal educational use of authorised students.

Students may use the resources to support their own learning, revision, homework, assessment preparation and exam preparation.

Where worksheets or resources are downloadable, students may download or print them for their own personal study.

However, Catalyst content must not be copied, redistributed, uploaded, sold, modified, reproduced or shared without written permission from Catalyst Academics.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • sharing worksheets with non-subscribed students;
  • uploading resources to social media;
  • uploading resources to file-sharing websites;
  • posting screenshots of paid content online;
  • recording or screen-recording videos;
  • selling or distributing Catalyst resources;
  • using Catalyst content to create competing resources;
  • sharing downloadable files outside the subscribed account;
  • distributing written solutions, cheat sheets or lesson materials.

Catalyst content is protected intellectual property.

That means the videos, worksheets, written solutions, cheat sheets, reports, lesson structures, explanations and other original resources remain the property of Catalyst Academics unless otherwise stated.

Any official or third-party resources referenced or linked through the platform remain the property of their respective owners.

If Catalyst becomes aware of unauthorised copying, distribution or misuse of its content, Catalyst may take action.

This may include:

  • removing access;
  • suspending accounts;
  • issuing takedown requests;
  • seeking payment for unauthorised use;
  • contacting schools or institutions where relevant;
  • pursuing further legal action where appropriate.

We want students to use the resources properly.

We do not want to become the academic copyright police.

But if someone starts copying, uploading or selling our work, then yes, unfortunately, the clipboard comes out and things get serious.

7. Privacy Policy Summary

Catalyst Academics respects student and family privacy.

Because many Catalyst users may be under 18, privacy is taken seriously.

Catalyst may collect personal information that is reasonably needed to provide access to the platform and support students.

This may include:

  • student name;
  • parent or guardian name, where relevant;
  • email address;
  • login details;
  • course enrolment information;
  • subscription and billing information;
  • platform usage information;
  • support requests;
  • submitted questions or assignment drafts, where applicable;
  • communication records with Catalyst.

Catalyst uses this information to:

  • create and manage accounts;
  • provide access to subscribed courses;
  • process subscriptions and payments;
  • communicate with students and families;
  • respond to support requests;
  • provide personalised support where included;
  • improve the platform and learning experience;
  • manage account security and prevent misuse.

Payment information is processed through secure third-party payment systems.

Catalyst does not aim to store full payment card details directly unless required through the relevant payment provider.

Where students use Mastery support, submitted questions, documents or drafts may be stored and reviewed through secure online systems such as Google Forms, Google Drive, email or the Catalyst platform.

Catalyst will take reasonable steps to protect student information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Catalyst will not sell student personal information to third parties.

Personal information may be shared with trusted service providers where necessary to operate the platform, process payments, manage communications or provide support. These providers may include platform, email, payment, storage and administrative systems.

Parents, guardians or students may contact Catalyst to ask questions about personal information, request corrections, or raise privacy concerns.

8. Disclaimer

Catalyst Academics is an independent educational support platform.

Catalyst is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or formally connected to:

  • the SACE Board of South Australia;
  • any individual school;
  • any textbook publisher;
  • any examination authority;
  • any government education department;
  • any official curriculum authority, unless expressly stated.

Catalyst resources are created independently by Catalyst Academics subject experts.

Where Catalyst refers to SACE, school subjects, textbooks, past examinations, subject outlines or other educational materials, this is for educational alignment, commentary, reference or study-support purposes only.

Any official documents, examination papers, subject outlines, textbook materials or third-party resources remain the property of their respective owners.

Catalyst’s unofficial solutions, reports, videos, worksheets, cheat sheets and explanations are educational resources designed to support student learning. They should not be treated as official marking guides, official curriculum documents or formal advice from any school or examination authority.

While Catalyst takes care to create accurate, useful and relevant educational resources, students should always follow the instructions, requirements and advice provided by their own school and teachers for assessments, assignments and examinations.

Catalyst does not guarantee any particular grade, result, ranking, university offer or academic outcome.

We provide the resources, structure and support.

Students still need to do the work.
